Once home to a humble pinto bean plantation, a mink farm, and even a pig farm, its destiny was transformed when John O. Crosby invested in the property in 1956. With a modest $200,000 investment from his parents, Crosby took the reins and transformed the opera house into the cultural beacon it is today.
It has withstood the test of time. Constantly evolving and inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its rich history and the legacy of Crosby's visionary impact on Santa Fe.
With its very first performance on July 3rd, 1957, this world-renowned institution has captivated audiences for decades with its breathtaking performances and otherworldly acoustics against the stunning backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The Santa Fe Opera is a unique and immersive experience. Its diverse calendar spans the classics, contemporary works, and even world premieres yearly.
